About

At the intersection of Baroque mysticism and quantum creativity, Aydan Ugur Unal invites us to explore new dimensions of art, where geometry, light, and color converge to reveal the infinite possibilities of perception and cultural connection.

The artist was born in Orhangazi, Bursa, Turkey, into a family of art and literature enthusiasts. Encouraged by her family, she began painting in her childhood. She later pursued her undergraduate studies at Yıldız Technical University, earning a degree in Geomatic Engineering. She continued her academic journey at the same university, completing a master’s degree in Urban Design. She became one of the first in Turkey to hold the dual titles of Urban Designer and Geomatic Engineer.

A significant portion of her career was dedicated to refining Istanbul’s fragmented urban fabric, which had been disrupted by haphazard settlements, while she simultaneously continued her painting. During this time, she also learned Ottoman Turkish to access and study ancient texts, fueling her extensive research in fields such as Spatial Geometry, Art, Mysticism, Philosophy, and Religious Studies.

Driven by a quest to discover new dimensions in her art, she sought to integrate the Baroque philosophy, infused with the mysticism of the Renaissance, within the consciousness and vibrational levels of the 21st century. This exploration led her to develop a unique technique known as ‘AydanSabb New Surreal Barocco.’ This style combines her deep knowledge of spatial geometry with her philosophical and artistic research, drawing inspiration from the mystical and creative traditions of Anatolia and the rich heritage of Turkish art.

The AydanSabb style embodies the art of "passing through dimensions and reaching unity," from the macro to the micro scale. It offers a novel interpretation of Baroque philosophy, blending the ideas of Leibniz and Gilles Deleuze, and expresses this through oil paintings and digital drawings. The dynamic textures in the foundational layer represent the optical twists of conceptual marks, which interconnect to form a cohesive whole, symbolizing the core subject matter on a higher scale.

Additionally, the artist’s digital hand-drawings, known as AydanSabb Xysta, have recently gained attention.

She continues to create and refine her work in her studios in Istanbul and Padua, Italy, using her pioneering AydanSabb technique.

The last exhibitions of the artist reimagine the rich history of Aegean region, Cappadoccia, Istanbul and portrays the thousand-years long history.
